Salary After Tax in All 98 Danish Municipalities (2026)
If you don't pay church tax, municipal tax is the only Danish tax rate that depends on your address. See all 98 municipalities ranked by how much of your salary you keep.
On a 500,000 DKK salary you keep 9,879 DKK more per year in København than in the 11 municipalities with the lowest take-home. The difference comes from the municipal tax rate.
The largest gap in the dataset is 15,967 DKK a year on a 750,000 DKK salary. That is how much more you keep in København (23.39% municipal tax) than in the 11 municipalities with the highest rate (26.30%). The gap comes from municipal tax. At higher salaries the tax ceiling narrows it slightly, because it cuts middle tax where municipal tax is high: here by 605 DKK a year.

Calculated with the Klarpay salary engine under the 2026 tax rules: AM-bidrag (8%), bottom tax (12.01%), municipal tax and middle tax (7.5% of personal income after AM-bidrag above 641,200 DKK, which a salary of about 696,957 DKK without pension reaches). None of the salaries reach the top-tax band. At 400,000 DKK and 500,000 DKK, municipal tax is the only thing that differs between municipalities. At 750,000 DKK you also pay middle tax, and the tax ceiling applies: bottom tax, middle tax and municipal tax together may not exceed 44.57%. In the 75 municipalities with a municipal tax rate above 25.06%, middle tax is reduced by the excess. So middle tax also differs between municipalities, which makes the take-home gap slightly smaller than municipal tax alone would.
Assumptions behind every figure: base salary only. No church tax, no pension (own or employer), no ATP contribution, no bonus, not the researcher tax scheme, and no deductions beyond the personal allowance, employment deduction and job deduction. Union fees, for example, are not deducted.

Which municipality has the lowest tax in 2026?
Copenhagen, Vejle and Rudersdal have among the lowest municipal tax rates (about 23.4%), while municipalities such as Læsø, Brønderslev and Vesthimmerland are highest at 26.30%.
How much does the municipality affect my salary after tax?
On a 500,000 DKK salary the difference between the cheapest and most expensive municipality is 9,879 DKK per year. The higher the salary, the bigger the gap — at 750,000 DKK it is 15,967 DKK per year. Note that 11 municipalities share the highest municipal tax rate of 26.30%, so there is no single "most expensive" municipality.
Is church tax included?
No. The ranking shows salary after tax without church tax, because membership of the Danish national church is voluntary. Church tax typically adds 0.4–1.0% on top for members.
Why does take-home pay differ between municipalities?
AM-bidrag (8%), bottom tax (12.01%), middle tax, top tax and top-top tax have the same rates across the country. Each municipality sets its own municipal tax, and that is what causes the difference. Above the middle-tax threshold (a salary of about 696,957 DKK without pension) the tax ceiling also matters: bottom tax, middle tax and municipal tax together may not exceed 44.57%. If the municipal tax rate is above 25.06%, middle tax is reduced by the excess. That applies in 75 municipalities. People there pay slightly less middle tax, so the take-home gap is slightly smaller than municipal tax alone would suggest.
